Astronomical CCD imaging with an USB webcam
The Viewquest M318 CCD camera
has a 1/4" CCD chip. The software that is
delivered with the camera allows resolutions of
160x120, 176x144, 240x180, 320x240, 352x288 and 640x480 pixels.
It allows various controls for brightness, gamma, white balance.
With the lens removed and attached to a telescope, it can be used to take
images of reasonably bright objects.

All images taken with a Meade 8", f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain.

A series of images was used to create this mosaic. The images were
processed with GIMP. Converted to grayscale images and brightness adjusted
to fit each other. Click on the image to view a larger version.
